Self Directed Support, sometimes known as Direct Payments is when you arrange for some or all of your support instead of receiving services from your local authority social work or housing department. It is for people who would like more flexibility, choice and control over their care so that they can live at home more independently.
Self Directed Support means that you have more control over who you wish to be supported by.
You will require to undergo a social work assessment, but if you already use social work services, you can speak to the person you normally talk to about your support. If you don’t have a care manager or social worker but would like to speak to one, contact your local social work department who will help you understand Self Directed Support.
Further information on directing your own support can be found in the following guide
