About Barony

Barony Housing Association had 355 affordable homes and provided care and support to around 800 people in central Scotland in 2019/2020.

We provided a range of homes and services in West Lothian, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire, Fife and Bo'ness.

Barony is proud to be part of Wheatley Group - Scotland’s leading housing, care and property-management group - joining in 2016.

Barony is a non-profit making charity. We are a Registered Social Landlord, registered with and regulated by the Scottish Housing Regulator.

Barony was created in the 1960s by a group of volunteers looking to help people who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Edinburgh. In 1971 Barony became a registered housing association. During the 1970s and 1980s Barony also established its Contact Point services that were designed to help people play an active role in their community.

In the 1990s, Barony built social housing for rent, particularly in West Lothian. These houses enabled Barony to offer secure tenancies to anyone in housing need.

During this time, Barony was also selected to provide care and support services to help people move out of long stay hospital care in West Lothian. By the turn of the century, Barony was providing care and support to help people live at home, whether or not Barony was their landlord.
